Blow-Drying Will Never Be the Same

“Blow dryer mounted on tripod holder used for controlled paddle brush blow-drying.”

Personally, blow-drying my hair was never a strong suit of mine. I prefer air drying or sitting under the hooded dryer whenever possible. But every so often I have to blow-dry a family member’s hair for the sake of time. This is something we also discuss inside Refined Haircare 101 when speaking about controlled drying techniques.

The last time I blow-dried my mom’s hair, I had the paddle brush in one hand and the blow dryer in the other. My hair was flying everywhere and steam was rising all around us. Nonetheless, I got through it.

But afterward it dawned on me that I already had a handy tool — something that would allow me to use my concentration nozzle and paddle brush with far more control.

A holder for my blower.

As someone who has several tripods lying around, this solution was actually perfect. The blow dryer could remain steady while both of my hands were free to focus on the hair.

A few days ago my cousin came over for a wash and style, and I used the setup seamlessly.

Now, because of the heat that blasts off this powerful dryer — even on the lowest settings — I still had to pin my own hair up while working. As someone who enjoys the feel of my strands touching my shoulders, the blow dryer simply does not allow for that kind of behavior.

It demands order.

I truly enjoy tending to my own hair and the heads of a few others, and I remember a time when imagining having hair products or even hosting salon-style workshops. What I pictured most was looking fabulous while doing it — the perfect outfit, my own cascades falling in bountiful curls.

But with the blow dryer?

I met my match.

And that’s perfectly fine with me.

Sometimes the work requires rolled sleeves.

Or perhaps, rolled hair.
